Sample Training Outline

Topics to Include

•  Introduction to concept of Caregiver Relief, confidentiality, overview of the aging process, elder abuse, universal precautions
•  Introduction to Alzheimer’s Disease, how Alzheimer’s Disease affects the brain
•  Communicating to someone with Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementias
•  Working with challenging behaviours and activities for people with Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementias
•  How Alzheimer’s Disease affects families, how families differ, a Caregiver’s story, safety in the home

Training Sessions include lectures, videos, role-playing, case studies and guest speakers. All potential Caregiver Relief Volunteers must attend these training sessions prior to being matched with a client.
