2010 Manulife Walk for Memories On January 31st, 2010 the Manulife Walk for Memories will be happening at the Lansdowne Place Mall. The Walk is and INDOOR walk to raise funds that are key to our ability to serve the growing numbers of individuals in our community affected y Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias. Registration will begin at 12pm with the walk commencing at 1pm and finishing at 2pm. For individuals who cannot come out a join us at the Lansdowne Place Mall, you ca still participate and support the Alzheimer Society by holding a walk in your own home. It’s so easy, we will send you a pledge form so you can still get pledges and then on the day of the walk, you ca do the walk at home or with a group of friends. If you live in an apartment or condo complex, you can get a group of neighbours or friends together in the lobby or party room. You just need to let us know when you are ready for us to come and pick it up. MacQuarrie Education Series This Series has been established to support and promote education awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias in the communities of Peterborough, Haliburton and Northumberland. The series will be held on Thursday January 21st, 2009 at Princess Gardens. This year we are pleased to have Guest Speaker William Thomas joining us. William Thomas is an author, scriptwriter, radio and television commentator, and a nationally syndicated newspaper columnist. He wrote a book, entitled Margret and Me, which is inspired by his mother who had Alzheimer’s disease. William will be sharing stories, anecdotes and observations from his caregiving experience. Persons with dementia, their partners in care, professionals providing dementia care and members of the general public are welcome. A Wellness Expo, in support of the Alzheimer Society of Peterborough and Area will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2009 from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm at the Evinrude Centre in Peterborough. The cost for attendees will be admission by donation, so it will be affordable for all. The goal of our expo is to educate the public and present show attendees with a wide variety of healthy living options. Exhibitors will include practitioners in massage, stress management and relaxation, acupuncture, naturopathy, herbology, nutrition, chiropractic plus a variety of community organizations and services. There will be a blood pressure clinic, door prizes and information packages. We will also have a Costco Pharmacist at the Show to answer questions.
